I’m loving being back on snow this winter and have had a great start to the season already.
I’ve been training on snow since the start of October. Mainly in Hintertux, Austria. The glacier in Hintertux is very high so it’s open virtually all year with guaranteed snow. They have a good snow park here and have built a snowboarder cross course as well so it’s been good training.
We have a big British snowboard cross team this year with 14 full time members; I am really enjoying having lost of team mates. There have been seasons in the past when I have been the only British athlete at some of the competitions and I always felt I was missing out on the atmosphere and support of competing alongside others from the same country, but this season I really feel part of a team. Also I am enjoying helping out the newer team members with advice on everything from dealing with nerves at a competition to nutritional advice.
I competed in a European Cup competition in Pitztal, Austria at the end of November, which went really well with a 5th place finish. I ended the day on high winning the small comfortably. I wrote a blog all about the race at the below link:
Tomorrow I’m going to Montafon, Austria for the first World Cup of the season. I’m especially looking forward to this race for two reasons. Firstly it will be the first World Cup I will have competed in for a while as I took last season away from World Cups. Secondly they have an extra event in Montafon, which is a team race! This is essentially a relay so when the first member of the two person team gets to the bottom of the course the gate opens for their team mate a the top. I’ve never been able to enter a team event before because I needed another girl from Britain competing at World Cup and didn’t have this until this season! I will be competing with fellow brit Stephanie Gehrig and we are both very excited!
