The British Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross teams joined together in 2014 creating the British GBX team. For the first time in its history, British Ski & Snowboard (BSS), Snowsport England (SSE) and Snowsport Scotland (SSS) have joined together to offer 6 British GBX trials running throughout the UK in 2016 – after the trials at Braehead & Leeds (3 trials) there are SX & SBX competitons running the following day! If successful at the trials, athletes will be invited to join the British Home Nations Academy, British National Academy or British National teams for the forthcomming 2016/17 season.
If selected, athletes will receive immediate recognition of selection onto the nominated Home Nations, National Academy or National team website.
Athletes selected to the Home Nations squad will be offered a UK based GBX coaching program. A daily coaching fee will be chargeable as all GBX programs are self funded.
Athletes selected to the British National Academy or Britsh National teams will be offered a European, on snow based coaching program. In main part, this consists of 6 months on snow (Oct to March) full time training and competitions at FIS, EC and WC level.
British National GBX performance/coaching staff are working directly with coaching staff from the following hand picked venues throughout the UK. Not only will venue coaching staff work direcly with us on the selection days themselves but they will act as satellite selection venues 24/7 for the British Ski and Snowboard Cross Home Nations academy, British National Academy and British National Squads:-

Ski and Snowboard Cross is arguably one of the most exciting, fun, exhilerating and enjoyable of the Olympic winter sports disciplines. As a relatively new Olympic sport, opportunities are huge for potential GB athletes wishing to represent their country at the Olympic Games and with a much reduced price tag compared to other similar disciplines, GBX is a hugely attractive Olympic option.
Do you want to set a qualifying time AND race head to head against other athletes? Are you motivated, self determined and able to treat setbacks as challenges? As a non winter nation do you want to compete on a similar footing to other world class athletes? If so, then Ski or Snowboard Cross is a brilliant option. Are you new to the sport or have previous experience in Freestyle or Alpine? If so, we are looking for you to come and give it a go.
We are looking for skiers and snowoarders who want to race others. Athletes who are physically robust and willing to spend time doing other activities which are fun (such as parkour, dance, martial arts, acrobatics, gymnastics) alongside learning to ski or snowboard as well as display performance behaviours of a world class athlete in other aspects of training and lifestyle. Age is not our important drive, stage of skills, robustness and mind-set to over-come setback is!
We will be selecting athletes based on our GBX skills mission documents (to be published shortly). We will be asking each athlete to complete a variety of tasks during the selection events and completion of these tasks will be matched to the relvant skills mission level and in turn Home Nations, National Academy or National Squad selection. An example of some skills (Snowboard only) which we may ask you to do on the day can be found here, pls note this is just a sample:- Example skills

It is very important that if you decide to attend the trials you note all the steps that need to be taken before and on the day of the trials. These can be seen during the checkout process and include informaton such as you must wear a helmet, arrival time, that every person attending the trials must sign a waver etc etc; the waver must be completed and brought with you on the day and can be found here:- http://goo.gl/lpI7oF
If you are selected to the SX or SBX National Academy or National Squad, you have the option (subject to availability as spaces are limited) to join the 12 month program. The programs (SX & SBX) share the same accomodation and resources including physiotherapy, fitness training and nutrition. For 6 months of the year (October – March) the squads are based in Zell Am Ziller, Austria. October & November are spent training in Hintertux & Pitztal while December through to March are spent competing in FIS, EC and WC competitions as well as training on the local mountains. The remaing 6 months are spent in the UK with a focus on fitness ready for the season.
All the programs are 100% athlete funded. Currently the core cost to SX athletes on the National academy or National squad programme is £6500 for the year, the cost to SBX athletes on the National Academy or National squad programme is £5500 (the difference being in coach, course access and equipment costs.) Core costs cover 6 months on snow coaching, travel to/from training and competitions in team vehicles from the team base around Europe, and fitness, nutrition and physiotherapy support 12 months round.
Typical costs not included in the core costs but which should be budgeted for are team accomodation which is £2000 for 6 months; a “Tyrol” season lift pass is approximately £575 and covers pretty much all training venues; food & drink; insurance; a FIS licence, travel to the team base from your home address at the start and end of the season and any general expenses.
Our aim is simple, to offer high quality programs with very achievable program costs to give athletes every chance of being the best they can be.
The Home Nations Academy is UK based and will offer coaching at various indoor and outdoor snow centres around the country. The cost is to be confirmed, costs will be charged on a per coaching session basis.
